Dementia & Alzheimer’s Care Expansion
For nearly sixty years Heritage Community of Kalamazoo (HCK) has served our region by providing high quality care to seniors that includes independent living, assisted living, Alzheimer’s and dementia care, and skilled-care services. As the region’s largest not-for-profit senior-focused organization we find that many of our residents have limited means to pay for the care provided. For the past five years HCK has, on an annual basis, provided approximately $350,000 in charity and benevolent care and $1.5 million in support for under-funded care.
Among our range of care options, HCK is recognized as the region’s premier provider of memory care services for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. For nearly a decade, HCK has provided focused programs, staff, and training on the special needs of individuals, and families, struggling with the debilitating effects of Alzheimer’s disease.
There are currently 158 beds in the Greater Kalamazoo area dedicated to care for people with Alzheimer’s disease. HCK has 20 beds in its Amber Way community and an additional 21 beds at the Harold and Grace Upjohn Community Care Center (UCCC). It is estimated that an additional 189 residents with Alzheimer’s disease are being cared for in general assisted-living facilities throughout the Greater Kalamazoo community. That leaves a tremendous need in the community for additional residential units. That need is magnified given that many residents may not be receiving specialized care services designed to address the specific needs of people with Alzheimer’s disease. Please help us support those with Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease.

Giving Option C: Naming Opportunities
There is also a one time opportunity to have the donor select the name of the new Dementia & Alzheimer’s Center. Whether the donor elects to have their name, a family name, or the name of a loved one attached to the new center, it would be a wonderful testament to the importance of this project and a most generous and thoughtful way to memorialize your gift. A contribution of $250,000 is needed for this unique opportunity.
All gifts may be spread over a three year period of time and we are happy to work with every donor on their specific interests and preferred payment schedule.
